Amy Brnger Workshop: The Acadia Landscape

June 22 - 24, 2026
The gallery is once again proud to host Amy Brnger's Workshop! Participants will paint together for 3 days. Amy will help you develop paintings that reflect the natural world but are also uniquely yours. You will focus on direct observation and concentrate on finding a strong composition, practice incorporating color and relationships, emphasize strong values, brush stroke energy, surface work, and warm and cool temperatures to help you develop spacious and rich paintings. Amy will demo and discuss issues unique to plein air painting: changing light and weather, using major shapes to keep you from getting bogged down in detail, and using color relationships without using an overabundance of tubes of color. Each day will begin with a demo related to the day's work. After this, participants work, receiving individualized feedback and instruction related to your painting style and intuitive touch. Medium: Oil, acrylic or watercolor (Amy will demo in oil).
This workshop is being held outside, both in and around Acadia National Park. There is no level of experience required for this workshop, however, we ask that all participants have some level of experience in plein air painting, and that you’re familiar with setting up and taking down your plein air easel before you arrive at the workshop. Please make sure you have the proper hiking boots/sneakers along with sunscreen, a sunhat and lightweight rain jacket for inclement weather. There may be some (easy) hiking/walking involved so please be prepared and dress accordingly. In other words, this is plein air painting at its finest!
To enhance the artist's experience during this workshop, we are accommodating a maximum of 8 participants. Please contact Tyra Hanson via email to register: tyra@galleryatsomessound.com. Provide a brief bio verifying your level of experience as a painter along with a few images of your work. Tuition is $725 per person (without lunch) or $775 (includes lunch) for the 3 days and will be due at the time of registration. *REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS APRIL 12
Lodging suggestions will be made upon request.
