2026 - Supporting non-profits

June 1 - October 17

This year, as part of our ongoing community effort, the gallery is committed to supporting the WENDELL GILLEY MUSEUM, HAYSTACK MOUNTAIN SCHOOL OF CRAFTS, and LAND & GARDEN PRESERVE, as three non-profit organizations who align themselves with our mission:  A long-standing commitment to educate, stimulate and encourage others through fine art and visual culture.  The shows this year run June through October and the gallery will donate a portion of its sale proceeds throughout the summer to each of these organizations.

Maine Views - Inside & Out (June 3 - 30) and Shape of Time - Vestiges of Shadow and Light (July 15 - Aug 8):

The Wendell Gilley Museum inspires artistic creativity and engagement with the natural world on Mount Desert Island and Downeast Maine for current and future generations through education, exhibitions, and programs, while honoring the legacy of noted bird carver Wendell Gilley. Wendell Gilley is a name well known among carvers and carving collectors. Author of The Art of Bird Carving: A Guide to a Fascinating Hobby, one of the earliest instructional books on the subject, Gilley was a pioneer in the field of decorative bird carving. By his estimate, he created “ten thousand birds of pine and paint” between 1931 and 1983.

Studio Furniture with an Asian Twist (July 15 - Aug 8 and Sept 2 - Oct 17):

Haystack Mountain School of Crafts is an international craft school located in Deer Isle, Maine. Founded in 1950 as a research and studio program in the arts, Haystack offers one and two-week studio workshops to participants of all skill levels as well as the two-week, Open Studio Residency program, exhibitions, tours, auctions, artist presentations, and shorter workshops for Maine residents and high school students. We support visiting artists and scholars from a variety of fields including science, literature, music, and the visual arts who are invited to spend two weeks at the school focusing on their work. The award-winning campus was designed by noted American architect, Edward Larrabee Barnes, and opened in 1961 when the school relocated to Deer Isle.

It's Not What You Look At, But What You See (Aug 19 - Oct 17) and Hand Painted Kimonos by Gigi AEA (Sept 2 - Oct 17):

Land & Garden Preserve exists for those who want to connect with nature, to be inspired and restored, and to contribute to the conservation and sustainability of some of the most beautiful, historic public lands and gardens in New England. Through stewardship, education, and tremendous care, the Preserve nurtures the essential interconnections between humanity and nature. Land & Garden Preserve thoughtfully manages, cares for, and stewards 1400 acres of historic natural lands, gardens, and trails on Mount Desert Island, Maine, between Seal Harbor and Northeast Harbor, abutting Acadia National Park.
