Jacqueline Jones
Jacqueline Jones' paintings summon ephemeral moments and emotions inspired by nature. Her rich color palette and lively brushwork capture the scents and sounds of the land: the rushing streams, rolling surf, rustling grasses and salted winds of coastal New England as well as her many travels. Each summer, she paints out West (Arizona, Colorado and Wyoming namely) and has recently painted in Iceland and Norway.
Painting from life, Jacqueline finds her work is not only infused with the elements, but with the people she encounters along the way. Weaving voices and memories into her oils, she often engages the curious onlooker. "I love talking with people when I'm out in the field, taking time to share my love for the land and painting," she says. "They become part of the whole experience. When I reflect on a painting later, I often smile, remembering special conversations and a shared humanity." Underlying this are scenes that offer strong abstract compositions and solid design. Jacqueline is an advocate of 'form over content'. "Whatever the subject matter, I'm energized by the way light reveals essence and form, each creation a unique journey that carries its own emotive signature," she explains.
Jackie Jones is an award-winning oil painter known for her evocative seascapes and coastal landscapes inspired by a life spent along the eastern seaboard. Working both en plein air and in the studio, she is drawn to the power of the ocean, the grace of sailing vessels, and the enduring character of working waterfronts and wild coastal places. Through careful observation and a strong sense of design, Jones seeks to capture the atmosphere, light, and spirit of the places she paints. Jones holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Lyme Academy College of Fine Art and an Associate Degree in Graphic Design and Illustration from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. Her work is rooted in the traditions of American representational painting and reflects the influence of artists such as Willard Metcalf, Winslow Homer, Frederick Judd Waugh, and the painters of Cape Ann, including Cecilia Beaux, Emile Gruppe, and Aldro Hibbard.
A Signature Member of the American Society of Marine Artists, Jones is also an active member of American Women Artists, the California Art Club, Laguna Plein Air Painters Association, and the Salmagundi Club in New York City. Her paintings are represented by Bayview Gallery in Maine, The Gallery at Somes Sound on Mount Desert Island, Finer Line Gallery on Cape Cod, and Demers Jones Gallery in Rockport, Massachusetts, which she co-owns with her husband, marine artist Don Demers. Her work has received national recognition, including Best Water in the Plein-air Salon, finalist honors in the ARC International Salon, and selection for Modern Marine Masters at Cavalier Gallery in New York City. A painting by Jones has been acquired for the permanent collection of The Brinton Museum, and in 2026 she was invited to participate in the prestigious Laguna Plein Air Invitational.
In addition to her studio practice, Jones is a dedicated educator. She co-founded The Outdoor Studio with Demers, offering workshops throughout the United States and abroad. She also serves on the Board of Governors and Education Committee of the Rockport Art Association & Museum, where she has helped revitalize the historic Cape Ann Summer School of Art as part of the organization's expanding educational programs. Jackie and Don divide their time between South Berwick, Maine, and East Hampton, Connecticut. Together, they operate Demers Jones Gallery in Rockport while continuing to pursue their shared passion for painting and preserving the rich traditions of American representational art.
